Detroit Sports Yap with Knapp: Wrestlemania 39 Night One Predictions
How will the first night of Wrestlemania 39 go?
It’s been a while since I have written, but you know I can’t ignore Wrestlemania! The biggest wrestling weekend of the year is this weekend, and it starts on Saturday night with Night One of Wrestlemania 39. I am here to give you my predictions of what will happen at Wrestlemania 39 and let’s get right to the point, so check out my predictions below!
1. Austin Theory (c) vs. John Cena for the United States Championship
The confirmed opening match for Wrestlemania 39 is a title match between Theory and Cena that could go either way. Cena has buried Theory on the mic, while Theory hasn't looked strong in the build-up to the match. Either Cena will bury Theory and prove himself right in a final United States Championship run, or Cena will be proven wrong, and Theory will get a big boost with a win over Cena. Cena is nearing the end of his WWE career, with fewer and fewer appearances every year; he doesn't need another United States title reign to his name. Theory will get the win after losing at Wrestlemania last year.
Winner: Austin Theory
2. Seth Rollins vs. Logan Paul
This match has a chance to steal the show on Saturday night. The tag team main event match will certainly dominate the show via storyline, but when it comes to action in the ring, Rollins and Paul are both athletic and can put on a 5-star match. Rollins doesn’t get much with a win over Paul, but with Logan Paul's contract being up after this match and I believe he will re-sign with WWE, I could see him winning his first match at Wrestlemania against Rollins, who is known for putting over talent.
Winner: Logan Paul
3. Trish Stratus, Lita, and Becky Lynch vs. Damage CTRL (Bayley, Dakota Kai, and Iyo Sky)
This match is the easiest one to predict. When a Hall of Fame wrestler comes back, especially more than one like there is in this match, they are going to win. Does Trish, Lita, or Becky need this win compared to Damage CTRL? No, but it’s rare to see Hall of Famers lose their Wrestlemania match.
Winner: Trish Stratus, Lita, and Becky Lynch
4. Braun Strowman and Ricochet vs. The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) vs. Alpha Academy (Chad Gable and Otis) vs. The Viking Raiders (Erik and Ivar) (with Valhalla)
In the fatal four way tag team match, a few teams could possibly win it here. Braun and Ricochet could continue to be an interesting team, The Street Profits have been Tag Team Champions before, and The Vikings Raiders have been getting more respect lately. The team I know that won’t win is Alpha Academy as it seems that Otis is going to leave Gable behind and join a new group. I think that plays into them losing, maybe the match, or just leaving Gable behind to get pinned. I will go with the best team out of these four to win it.
Winner: The Street Profits
5. Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio
This match was rumored to be Rey Mysterio’s last match as he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame last night, but he said he has a few more years left in him. He wants to help build his son into a WWE star and this rivalry, showing Dominik’s heel side, had done that. I can’t see this match being a one-and-done, and even though Rey could use a win against The Judgement Day faction, I can’t see him wanting to not let his son have his Wrestlemania moment solo after they won together last year. Rey could beat him at Backlash, but here he takes the fall.
Winner: Dominik Mysterio
6. Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Rhea Ripley for the Smackdown Women’s Championship
In the first women’s championship match, a match that sadly didn’t have much build-up. Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley, a rematch from Wrestlemania 36 where Flair defeated Ripley for the NXT Championship. Back then, Ripley was the dominant champ on NXT, and Flair came into her show and took her title. This time, Ripley will do the same for her, and she will walk out the Smackdown Women’s Champion and keep boosting Judgement Day.
Winner: Rhea Ripley
7. The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) (c) vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for the Undisputed Tag Team Championship
This match hasn’t been confirmed as the main event for night one, but it makes the most sense out of the six confirmed matches above and it has been heavily rumored as such. If it’s true, it will be the first tag team match in the main event of Wrestlemania since Wrestlemania 1. The major storyline here is Sami Zayn getting his revenge against The Bloodline, and if he can’t take the title off of Roman Reigns, he can take the tag team titles off of The Usos with his best friend Kevin Owens.
Zayn and Owens have been fierce rivals in their time together in WWE, rarely teaming up as they are best friends. Now they are finally working together as friends in the WWE, and they will be able to claim the tag team championship. Now let’s hope they don’t turn this into another rivalry between each other to end it and they can move on to their separate singles careers after this is done.
Winner: Kevin Ownes and Sami Zayn
Conclusion
Night one is going to have some great matches in it overall and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds. I wish the Hell in the Cell match was on night one, but I understand them wanting to spread Judgement Day’s matches out. The only way WWE can mess this up is not putting Zayn and Ownes on last, and having Flair retain her championship.
For night one, I am excited about the Rollins vs. Paul match and the tag team match for Zayn and Owens. What are your thoughts on my Wrestlemania 39 night one predictions?
